Goosebumps in your target language: 13 spooky words for HAUNTED night as your own pack
Hallway, footsteps, whispering, torch, alone: 13 Spanish spooky words as a LingFit pack, plus a spoiler-free look at HAUNTED: Are You Alone?
- Room-Scale
- Mixed Reality
- PEGI 18

Halloween is the time of year when we scalers willingly turn our living rooms into haunted houses. Mixed reality makes that especially effective, because the scare doesn’t happen in some stranger’s villa — it happens at your own wall, under your own ceiling, in your own hallway. This briefing combines two things: a horror game for the Quest and a small vocabulary pack that lets you take the spookiness into another language.
We’ve gone with Spanish because it’s available in LingFit for English, German and French speakers. The list is easy enough to adapt to any other target language, though.
First: HAUNTED in brief (no spoilers)
HAUNTED: Are You Alone? is a story-driven mixed-reality horror game for Meta Quest that turns your own room into the level. The setup: a witch has lived in this house for 100 years, and every family that has moved in has kept her. Now she’s found you. A little girl on an old rotary phone guides you through the story.
A few facts for planning:
- Age rating: PEGI 18. The game is explicitly not suitable for children, and a content warning appears every time you launch it (loud noises, flashing lights, gore, intense jump scares).
- Play area: your own room, scanned via Space Setup. Walls, floor and ceiling become part of the level. You play standing or in room-scale mode, and the story also calls for crouching.
- Length: roughly 25 to 35 minutes of story, plus three endless arcade modes.
- Headsets: according to the store, Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3 and Quest 3S.
- Streaming: the “Hide my room” mode replaces passthrough with a virtual padded cell, so you don’t show your own flat while streaming.
We won’t give away any more than that. Secret chapters, codes and the ending are deliberately left out here.
The 13 spooky words
The list is based on what you hear, see and feel in a haunted house, and on the publicly known chapter themes such as witch, hands, doll, darkness and mirror.
1. el pasillo – the hallway
The place where every horror film is set. In mixed reality it’s often the real hallway behind the open bedroom door that suddenly looks suspiciously dark.
2. los pasos – the footsteps
Plural, because one footstep on its own is harmless. Several in a row, somewhere behind you, are not.
3. el susurro – the whisper
Spatial audio makes whispering especially unpleasant in MR, because it seems to come from a real corner of the room.
4. la linterna – the torch
In the Skull Hunt arcade mode, according to the game description, you hold a torch in your left hand. A word you’ll need inside the headset, then.
5. solo / sola – alone
The game’s title asks exactly that. Careful: in Spanish the ending changes depending on gender. A good example of the base form in the LingFit tooltip.
6. la bruja – the witch
The central figure of the story and a glitching apparition that, according to the game description, reacts to where you look.
7. el fantasma – the ghost
A masculine word ending in -a, a classic stumbling block for beginners.
8. la muñeca – the doll
A possessed porcelain doll is among the enemies. We’ll say no more.
9. la pared – the wall
In HAUNTED the wall isn’t a backdrop, it’s part of the action. Which is exactly why a clean room scan matters so much.
10. el techo – the ceiling
If you only watch the floor in mixed reality, you’re underestimating the ceiling. Worth remembering.
11. la oscuridad – the darkness
One chapter carries this name. A long word that works well for the syllable drill in the speaking exercise.
12. el espejo – the mirror
Also a chapter theme. And a practical tip: real mirrors in the room can interfere with the Quest’s tracking, so cover them before you play.
13. el grito – the scream
The word you’ll probably produce most often yourself on Halloween night.
Building the pack in LingFit
The 13 words fit neatly into a pack of their own, because LingFit builds chapters from 1 to 20 words. Here’s how:
- Choose Spanish as your target language. Multiple languages per account are possible, with separate progress.
- Enter the words or photograph them. You can type the list out or snap a photo of a piece of paper. According to the maker, the app reads the text and takes on the vocabulary.
- Check the list, especially articles and endings such as “solo / sola”.
- Spend one credit. Each pack costs one credit, and new accounts get one free. If creation fails, the credit is refunded.
- Name it, for example “Noche de miedo”, and start it from the “Yours” tab.
If you’d rather type less, enter a topic like “haunted house at Halloween” instead and pick the Basic Words level. LingFit then suggests a list you can edit before creating it. The finished chapter contains the same exercise formats as the course, with audio and images. Tapping a word shows several translations, the base form and a slow pronunciation.
Halloween night: setup and safety
- Scan the room or check the existing scan. Re-capture any furniture that has moved since the last Space Setup.
- Cover mirrors and glass surfaces, as they can confuse tracking.
- Clear some space. Jump scares lead to reflex movements. Nothing breakable within arm’s reach.
- Leave the guardian on. Especially with horror, when you flinch backwards, the boundary matters.
- Brief your spectators. Anyone not playing stays outside the play area.
- Take a break after the story, put the headset down, turn the lights on, breathe. Then do the pack sitting down.
And once more, clearly: HAUNTED is PEGI 18. It isn’t meant for a family evening with children — the vocabulary pack is, though, because the words themselves are harmless.
Scaler’s take: HAUNTED turns wall, ceiling and hallway into a stage for terror, and those very words are the basis of our pack. 13 terms, one credit, one chapter: that’s how you take Halloween night into another language without giving away a single spoiler.
